This is an evening at Chowpatty beach on Marine Drive.
If you're expecting clean sands and blue waters, you're not likely to find it. Instead, you'll find a colourful, crowded beach that's filled with couples and local families out to enjoy the evening breeze.
For a look at local street food, it doesn't get better than at Chowpatty. Kiosks along the beach sell sugar-loaded kulfi (Indian ice cream) and Mumbai's trademark bhelpuri (a piquant combination of puffed rice, peanuts, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, mint, coriander, chutney and chillies).
Across the road from the beach is Wilson College, Mumbai's oldest college. Founded in 1832, the college has an impressive Gothic structure and has produced some of the leading figures of India's struggle for independence.
After a relaxing hour at the beach, you can visit a nearby temple to watch the ritual evening prayers. You can also stop at the well-known Soam Restaurant to sample Mumbai street food and other traditional Gujarati delights.
Any day of the week, between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Starts outside Wilson College. Group sizes vary from 2-6 people.
